Profile

  • Hinoura Hamono Kobo (日野浦刃物工房) is a family forge in Sanjo, Niigata; it took its current name when it moved to Tsukanome, Sanjo, in 1991.1
  • Third-generation smith Tsukasa Hinoura entered the trade in 1978 and was certified as a Traditional Craftsman in 2012.1
  • The workshop’s lines include Ajikataya (味方屋), launched in 1982, and the higher-grade Echigo Tsukasa (越後 司), from 1984.1
  • In May 2026 the workshop announced that Mutsumi Hinoura had left and that products he sells under the name 鎚の音 are unrelated to it. Listings under Mutsumi Hinoura’s name are excluded from the price table on this page.2
